Welcoming Ritual

Activities that promote inclusion.

Adults bring rich experiences and perspectives that need to be shared and built on.

We start by establishing connection and norms that promote active listening and participation. It is important to create a sense of belonging and purpose for all voices to create learning together.

Engaging Practices

Sense Making & Brain Breaks.

Learning occurs using interactive strategies that foster relationships, collaboration, and skills to take back to the classroom. Think time, multiple opportunities to talk, music, and reflective questions allow us to dig deeper and integrate information into our long term memory. We learn by doing, so we have first hand knowledge to bring back to the community we serve.

Optimistic Closure

Reflections & Looking Forward

We end learning by having participants reflect on the experiences, content, and next steps. The goal is the learning will propel and inspire action.

What is SEL?

“Social and emotional learning (SEL) is an integral part of education and human development. SEL is the process through which all young people and adults acquire and apply the knowledge, skills, and attitudes to develop healthy identities, manage emotions and achieve personal and collective goals, feel and show empathy for others, establish and maintain supportive relationships, and make responsible and caring decisions.

SEL advances educational equity and excellence through authentic school-family-community partnerships to establish learning environments and experiences that feature trusting and collaborative relationships, rigorous and meaningful curriculum and instruction, and ongoing evaluation. SEL can help address various forms of inequity and empower young people and adults to co-create thriving schools and contribute to safe, healthy, and just communities.”
